Now this is scary, especially when taken together with recent climatic and environmental changes. And even more so (as the article does not explore) when you consider the intimate and (co)dependent relationship between the marine ecosytem and the terrestrial ecosytem (particularily the coastal biosystems that rely heavily either directly or indirectly on the health of the marine biosystem). Biological oceanographers (a field I received a B.Sc. Honours) have been discussing this scenario for decades. Another nail in the coffin of the Planet Earth Biosphere.
