GMail invite... anyone got any? <G>

GMail invite... anyone got any? <G>
Little bit cheeky... but does anyone happen to have a space GMail invite? I'm considering moving over to this for management of my emails. The main reason being, that my email client cannot handle the sheer amount of emails I get each day. Outlook used to handle it ok ... but you just got swamped by SPAM all the time ... which took quite a chunk out of my day Frown

TIA

have you given Mozilla Thunderbird a try yet? I made the switch 2 weeks ago and think it's great.

Hey Andy,

I've got a small handful of invites just collecting dust. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send one to you. But... have you looked into a SA proxy for Outlook? I use one called K9 and it filters out 99.8% of my spam mail. It take a few weeks or a moth month to train (depending on your spam load) but once you have it trained properly it's awesome. You can set it to tag the subject or header of the message then add a filter in outlook to send it to the can and you're all set. Here is a link: http://www.keir.net/k9.html.

Yeah, I've tried similar (SpamBully, SpamBlocker, and a few more) ... but although they seem to work, they also have a HUGE strain on the software itself (in my case, it was Outlook XP). Really sucks ... which is why I'm looking into a web-based one now (I'm still going to use a POP3/SMTP client for specific accounts ... but my main emails, will goto the GMail account).

TIA

If anyone else needs one, I've got 6. Just send me a PM.

Edit: All gone, sorry!

Cheers,

I've been looking at some challenge/request server-side systems.

The idea is that if an incoming email addy isn't recognized, the challenge/request system fires out a 'challenge' email that must be manually replied to in order to have the initial email moved to the inbox. There are some folks who don't like these systems, but from what I hear they do put a serious dent in spam.

Here are a few systems that I'm looking at - ASK, TMDA, and SpamCease. ASK and TMDA are both opensource and free. SpamCease is commercial.

ASK seems like it would be the easiest to install, and it can be installed at the virtual level. ASK also has a gui being developed. It's called WebASK. The others have gui's too.

Cpanel also has a freebie upgrade (as of this writing) called cpanelpro, which includes 'boxtrapper' that appears to be like an A-S-K clone or such. I've been experimenting with one, and it seems pretty nice, though I'm finding some issues.

I prefer having the server do as much of the filtering as possible, then only download the good stuff.

WebASK

TMDA

TMDA GUI

SpamCease

Yeah, I also looked into this kind of thing ... but was sold on the GMail thing :) (thanks for the links though .... I'm sure they will help somewhere along the lines :)).

R.e GMail ... wow! The best part of it (which I have missed stupidly in PocoMail), is a decent email search. You can literally do searches as you would on Google ... and it seems to be pretty accurate :)

Outlook XP had search filters.... but due to the way that GMail is webbased ... its almost instantly Cool

BTW... for anyone who has a GMail account, and doesn't know about this ... its pretty cool <G>

Basically lets you get a MSN Messenger style "alert box", so you know that you have a new email to read :)

Been using it even more now. Got most my accounts forwarding to it :)

Google have really been pretty clever in terms of how they've put this together. Silly little things, like the file upload are great. Simply opens up a "browse" window, and then lets you choose the file. If you want more than one, you can just add it to the list. Once you're ready to send, it doesn't try to load another page.... it simply shows "sending" in the top right, until the message has been sent (something I was worried about, due to timeouts).

So, for anyone else considering the move ... its well worth it... even if you only use it for personal accounts, or high spam ones (the spam filters are pretty cool too Smile).

Thanks again for the invite Charlie :)

Cheers
