God, you just gotta love them... don't you? Unsure

Just installed the SP2 for XP (on my laptop), after having a few issues with some pages not working. It all went in ok ... and then I tried to connect to the Net ... ARGH! It has done something really iffey with my settings, and now I can't even connect! (its all working fine on the ADSL wireless router, but not on my laptop).

Yep - do some checking on XP SP2 - in an effort to correct some of the security issues they've caused some unintended problems with networking. Not sure exactly what they all are, but if you are using XP Pro you'll notice some buggy things happening.

Example: if you use U.are.U pro you'll have to upgrade to the latest version if you install SP2 otherwise it won't recognize your fingerprint.

I finally managed to get it working again by uninstalling the service pack (thank GOD they give you an uninstaller that works!).

Gonna be a little more careful next time I do an XP update Frown

I've updated a few systems (XP Pro) with Service Pack 2 and all went as smooth as a baby's bum :)

LOL ... I still didn't have any luck getting any service pack to install. Fortunatly for me, that machine is only a dummy server now, so doesn't really get exposed to anything :) My other machine has all the updates installed <G>

I am tired of installing SP and after that installing hot fix for these SP.
I am thinking of switching to Linux desktop like Fedora or Nevel. Any one has using it there? Can you tell some ideas?

Its a pretty large download, but not too bad on DSL.

The install is nothing like I was expecting. It all installs without any hassles, and even works automatically on my network router!

Hi Andy, which version did you get of mandrake ? I guess it was the desktop version since the other one seems to be a 6CD version ?
