My server name is dance.djcafe.com and my url is djmixes.com. When I set up the .htaccess file then go to the dir where it is, I get asked for a password twice, once from djmixes.com and once from dance.djcafe.com. any ideas?

Netscape/IE won't send the password unless the host names are the same (good thing, imagine if you had a frame to some remote site, wouldn't want your username/password sent there would you?).

Netscape/IE can't know that it's going to the same machine in this case... Only solution is to use the same domain name consistently.

But it only happens when I am poiting to the htpasswd file in the cgi dir. If i put the htpasswd and htaccess together in the same dir I want to access, it works fine.
