I have heard of problems occuring with the databases if people change the ID number at the top of the entry. Is there a way to disable this? (for instance, if the number ID is up to 64, I don't want the user changing it to 500)

Edit the form so that the field is 'hidden'.
There are some nice tutorials on customising DBMan, including changing form fields, in JPDeni's DBMan-ual
Only an admin user should be able to edit the ID anyway, but it's probably safer to prevent that too.
