I've made another mod that will fetch the title/description and url of your visitors site and automatically enter it into the add page so all your visitors have to do is enter their contact name and email before pressing submit.

I know this has been done before but I am writing these mods for myself and someone else as I prefer to write my own mods than use others and so I may as well make them available to give people a choice.

If anyone is interested let me know and I'll post the code - it is pretty short and easy to install.

LOl.. I know what you mean! Looks like a great mod. Wors fine for me. You may want to get people with other browsers to use it, seeing as it uses Javascript, but that shouldn't be a major problem

It doesn't use javascript at all. The add page does but that is only for my site - not included with the mod.

One thing though, it doesn't seem to accept subdomains like my resource site (http://links.innovationstudios.com). Any ideas?

Yep I'd also posted some brief instructions on how to have an add spider a while back (it's buried somewhere in this forum)

But as you say it's good to give people a bit of choice

But the best is - some users asked in this forum - I don't have to translate the german MetaSpider Mod - it's the same as your's - to english and I don't have to edit the script to use it with the english Links 2.0 version.

I ask for a few bits of basic information in return for a FREE mod, such as the site it will be used on and you name, and I still get people who type:

Well, it is a good job I log remote hosts because I know who it was and I hope they are pleased with themselves. Even before I saw the remote host I knew who to expect.

I don't think _SOME_ people realise the effort that goes into writing some of the mods. It can take days or even weeks and then you come along and snatch a free copy for your site and don't care about anything else.

I will be taking harsher measures when allowing people to download my mods from now on.

On a lighter note, thanks to all the people who DO have manners. I have visited some of the URL's and it is great to see my mod in action on another site.

Ooops sorry guys, I added an extra newline by accident in the download script and it was printing the mod in MIME format inth email rather than attaching it but it is fixed now.

Hi Paul, I have downloaded the mod twice now,
I am keeping my existing code.
I uploaded add_spider.cgi and chmoded to 755.

I replace the add form in templates.pl and added the spider form.

When I goto add_spider.cgi I get 500 errors.

The add.cgi works evcerything changed there is ok, but the spider.cgi seems to be wrong.

I have even written out the paths in full too see if that would help, but no joy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Do you have an error log or telnet access?....If so check the error log or try running add_spider.cgi from telnet to see what it says.

I obviously have it running on my site as you have seen so I don't think it is a code problem. Make sure you uploaded the script is ASCII and chmodded it to 755.

Whatever I try, I seems go get a Internal 500 error. All files are uploades in ascii and as written in the install guide, chmod´ed to 755.

Yeah, thats my problem too, I have tried it now 6 times, but no joy. It maybe something I am doing wrong, but I have followed the instructions too the letter, I have even provided full paths to see if that would help but too no avail.
