How come even though i added 14 categories, only 8 appear?

Weird, I have 206 categories and they appear fine indeed. Perhaps after you have added them you forgotten to build them? After you change anything in your admin, such as validate, adding new category, modify and such, you must rebuild in order to see the changes. Hope this helps.
