Help! Path Problem

Ok I just got on a new server and am trying to install Links2. The downside to my new server is that
it is with a friend and he's away for a few days at a basketball fantasy camp and so there's nobody to ask
about the server paths.
So I've just been trying out things based on what my old host's paths were
ie. /www/username/cgi-bin/links/admin , /home/username/cgi-bin/links/admin

No luck.

So I got a little script to see if it could help me find out the correct path to use
but since I'm not much of a techie type I thought maybe somebody here with the info the script
gave me could work out the correct path i should be using with my installation of Links2(cgi-bin/links/admin
).

Here is what this server check script says about the server I am on
**************************************************
Current Directory [Base Path]: /var/mysite.com/cgi-bin

Perl Version: 5.00401
Perl Path(s):
================================
perl: /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/bin/perl

Mail Program [SendMail] Path(s):
================================
sendmail: /usr/bin/sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail

SERVER_SOFTWARE = Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) PHP/4.0.4pl1
GATEWAY_INTERFACE = CGI/1.1
DOCUMENT_ROOT = /var/mysite.com/public_html/
*********************************************

so i also tried /mysite.com/public_html/cgi-bin/links/admin - no luck.
And I have checked the permissions on everything many times. So it has to be I don't have the correct
path set up.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Why are you using

/mysite.com/public_html/cgi-bin/links/admin

...the correct path is right there for you to see. It even says "Current Directory"

/var/mysite.com/cgi-bin

thanks Paul

i've had about 6 different hosts and my paths always started with either /home/ or /www/
yup the /var/ one worked, i thought it was some techno gobbledeegook so i didn't even try it.

now i'm having a bitch of a time getting Links to build itself........oh well...... :(

Yeah /var is a little unusual but if it works then that's all that matters.
