I've tried to install links, when I tried opening the admin.cgi page it opens the following error

Error including libraries: syntax error at /home/c/cateye/public_html/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg line 72, near "$db_admin_email = "webmaster"

Make sure they exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.


I've checked permissions and theyre set right. Could someone please tell me what the other bit means and what I need to do to fix it.

Looks like you probably added an extra " or ' somewhere in links.cfg by accident. Also it is asking for an email address so "webmaster" won't work, it needs to be like webmaster@domain.com.

Thanks for replying. I've had another look and I can't see what's wroong. Also I did have webmaster@mydomain.com as the e-mail address. I changed it again to sara@mydomain.com and I got this error again..

This is what line 72 in links.cfg looks like...

# Email address of the administrator. BE SURE TO SET!
$db_admin_email = "sara@mydomain.com";

'email@domain.com';

not

"email@domain.com";

If it doesn't work then just paste that part of the cfg file into a post so we can take a look and try to solve the problem for you.

That worked, but there were more syntax errors which I think I've sorted out now.
Tried to load the admin.cgi page, thought it was going to work but it opened in three frames each with a 404 error. I read someone elses post which mentions wrong paths. So still stuck trying to get this to work.

I suggest you upload a fresh copy of links.cfg and be more careful this time - don't edit anything you aren't supposed to.

Check that you are using the FULL paths and correct URL's and it should work fine.

It worked! I have an admin page that works. Thanks for all your help Paul. I ended up uploading links.cfg again as you suggested and lo and behold it worked. Must of made a real muck up of the old one. Now all I have to do is hope the rest works too! (or I'll be back)
