I have a problems when clicking on "add link" or the "add category" text in admin i get the blue and white Add menu but it only contains the text "Add a New" and "Add", "Reset" buttons no input fields!

This sounds like admin_html.pl is not closing tables properly. I had a similar problem. Get the latest links2.zip and reupload admin_html.pl and see if the problem goes away.

Please note that I said, get the latest links2.zip, extract the admin_html.pl from it, and upload it to see if it corrects the problem. I do believe there was a problem in one of the other archives that was online previously because I used to have the same problem although mine was with multiple modifies.
