Starnge build problem

Starnge build problem
I had been working on some mods late last night, and came up with a problem. When i did a build all, i would get cgi errors.

SO I finally gave up after hours of trouble shooting, and started fresh with original files, and even started fresh in a new directory...

Now, All the other nph files are working with no errors....

but the build functions produce server errors. BUT they actually build the pages, and do the backups..

Now I have noticed that it changes the permissions on the links.db to a -rw-r--r--

i change it back to the correct permissions, and re-run it and get the errors again, and the database is back to the mentioned permissions...

I am running on RAQ servers, and did all the functions listed in the FAQ..

any pointers???

It would be helpful if you told us what errors you were getting!

unfortunately, it does not give me error codes on this server like 500 etc.....

it pops up with a generic error page

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Well Links2 normally tells you the error.

How about your error log?

.....or re-install a fresh version of the script giving the error remembering to upload in ascii and chmod to 755.

Did you say it was nph-build with the problem?
If so you will need to comment out $nph++; for a RAQ

yes, i commented out all the nph, etc..just like the FAQ instructed...

I do not have access to the error logs, unless links 2 creates its own...

is it supposed to change the permissions on the links.db file?

and what happens after the pages are built.. apparently that is when the error occurs since the pages get built and the backups are made.

Chmod the data dir to 777 and the links.db file to 666 and try again.

yes, have done that as well, and re-did it again...

data directory is set to 777, and i chmod teh links.db to 666 and the program re-sets it to -rw-r--r--

It is likely to be your server that resets it not links.

Upload a new copy of nph-build.cgi and see if that works.

You know I had done that before as well... tested it before i edited the nph statements, and then make the changes, and it was the same thing... I had done that 3 times....

Really, im not an idiot....

BUT NOW....

since you are nice enought to assist me in this, I have done everything that you suggested even if it was done before... and you know what...

The friggin thing worked...

What a sorry POS!!! LOL, just had to make me miffed!!

Thank you for everything, and I guess it just shows you, sometimes you just have to let it win!
