root directory permission

root directory permission
I just loaded fileman last night.
When I go to it I get this message:
CGI ERROR
==========================================
Error Message : Can't open dir: '/web/guide/division42/'.
Reason: Permission denied
Script Location : /web/guide/division42/cgibin/fileman/fileman.cgi
Perl Version : 5.00503

I have tried both 775 and 777 on the file, but it hasn't made a difference.

Suggestions?

you would make the root folder 777 not the script since it saysError Message : Can't open dir: '/web/guide/division42/'.

Okay that takes care of that issue, thanks.

Now, I am trying to password protect a particular directory, and I get this response:

CGI ERROR
==========================================
Error Message : Unable to open password file '/web/guide/division42/cgibin/fileman/pass/www_MembersArea.pass'. Reason: No such file or directory
Script Location : /web/guide/division42/cgibin/fileman/fileman.cgi
Perl Version : 5.00503

I thought the script created the .pass file (since there wasn't one to install).

Well, just make the file it asks for, make the permissions right, and then see what happens.

BTW,
I don't use this script.

I tried that and got the same result.

Wouldn't it be more helpful if the suggestions come from someone who has used this script?

rweiss,

I empathesize with your frustrations, BUT Bmxer is just trying to help you. And he does know a lot about Perl. He is providing you some worthwhile suggestions based on general Perl and CGI logic, which applies to solving your problem.

If you have so many problems, why don't you learn some Perl and also CGI, or contact one of the Installers in the Resource Center to help you with the script.

Regards,
