Another internal error message user
I feel so stupid.
I'm trying to set up dbman, just with the default database. I get the ole "DBMan encountered an internal error. Please enable debugging to view." message, and even when debugging's on (as it is now) it stays the same. Perl is in the right location.
I haven't modified any of the files other than default.cfg and db.cgi, and only the locations in those.
The URL is at http://www.lphs.school.nz/alumni

I've read all the other posts and still no luck...

db.cgi can be viewed at http://www.lphs.school.nz/alumni/db.cgi.txt

If it helps, I've installed a little diagnostic prog about the server at
http://www.lphs.school.nz/cgi-bin/find.cgi

Please help!

Stuart

Hello Stuart, the only thing I noticed which was different in how you are calling the find.cgi script as compared to how you are calling the dbman scripts, is that there is not a /cgi-bin/ directory included in the dbman file paths.
e:\inetpub\lphs.school.nz\cgi-bin\find.cgi
$db_script_path = "e:\inetpub\lphs.school.nz\alumni

Could that be the problem?
Have you checked the server's error logs to see if there is any indication there on what's causing the error?

Hi Karen,
Thanks for your help and incredibly quick reply.

I'm forced to host the site with a, shall we say, less than helpful ISP. It is a school, and we get the hosting free from the credits we get (the ISP is a phone company too).

Thus I don't know how to access my server logs (hah, if there are any), so I'm unable to check for error messages. Quite annoying, really.

I stuck dbman in a subdir of my cgi-bin directory - still no luck. I've put quite a bit of time into trying to make this work, and I think I'll just give up. It's probably not dbman's fault, just the stupid host. I've had problems with their CGI access before.

Thanks for your help though all the same,

Stuart

Stuart, you're welcome. It seems to be overwhelming when there is a problem getting the install completed. If you get past that, you'll really be impressed with the functionality of DBMan.

If you opt to keep giving it a try, please save your default.cfg and html.pl files as regular text files and upload them where they can be viewed via the web (same as you did earlier). Post the url and either me or another dbman user can take a look at the files to see if we can help resolve the problem.
