its says its for flushing, but it has no effect if i comment this line. whats it exactly for? what happens if i dont use this line?

$|++ sets perl to not buffer output from the script. The information is still usually buffered by the web server, so you may not notice a big difference. I generally find it does avoid some problems by setting it on, especially in scripts that can pause for a long time.
